A Different Side
By writing a book, Sarah Palin wants us to see a different side.
We’ve seen a different side of David Letterman and it’s not funny.
And a VERY different side of Tiger Woods.
Magazine covers, late night TV appearances and countless media interviews all serve to show a more personable side of President Obama – at the risk of overexposure.
We all have many sides to us. Sometimes the ugly sides creep out (like at an airport terminal line). And don’t we all wish our lesser-known good sides would be more apparent? Some sides are neither good nor bad. Remember the class clown? A few of my friends are like that. But privately I also know they can be deep and serious and this contradiction is why I relate to them.
Recently we have had the pleasure of producing two fun projects for author John Eldredge . Those who have read John’s books, such as the best seller Wild At Heart, often perceive him to be a passionate thinker and adventurous outdoorsman. Close your eyes and you can almost see him hiking up some snowy Colorado mountain trail looking for elk antlers and pondering the mysteries of God and man. Kind of a modern day Henry David Thoreau. And all that would be true.
I was somewhat surprised to find that in-person there is another side to John – one that rarely comes out in his books. John can be an absolute goofball. He breaks into different voices just for fun, runs all over to set to loosen himself up, cracks up the crew with spontaneous practical jokes and can relate like a regular Joe.
We wanted to capture this. To show a different side. So with John’s endorsement, we added a zany outtakes reel in Ransomed Heart’s most recent video project, Love & War. Hopefully they will put it on their website too. This idea helps the message connect to a wider group of people while correcting incomplete perceptions about John.
It made me think how many pastors are only seen as “pastor”. How many teachers are only known as “teacher”? Don’t be afraid to let the world see your other good sides (and let God work on your not-so-good sides…) No, it won’t ruin your brand. But it certainly will make you far more dimensional, relatable and compelling.
You can view the Ransomed Heart outtakes reel here.
